2024-2025 Scholarship applications NOW BEING ACCEPTED

Growing a strong automotive workforce is essential to the health of the automotive industry in our state. Providing support and opportunity is one way MAMA and its members can secure its future workforce. Since 2006, the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association has awarded more than $400,000 in scholarships to students studying automotive-related fields at Mississippi’s community colleges and universities.

 
 

 

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants to the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association must:

  • Be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school in the state of Mississippi with plans to enroll full-time for the entire 2024-2025 academic year.

  • If attending a two-year college, be a sophomore during the year in which you would be receiving this scholarship. If attending a four-year college, be a junior or senior during the year in which you would be receiving this scholarship.

  • Hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or greater (on a 4.0 scale).

  • Be interested in pursuing a career in automotive.

  • Must never have received this scholarship before.

 

 

What will be awarded?

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of $1,500 (two-year college) or $2,500 (four-year college) for one academic year to be used for educational expenses. Awards are not renewable. Students may not receive this scholarship more than once.

 

 

How many scholarships will be awarded?

The Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association will award between 10 to 15 scholarships for a total of between $20,000 to $30,000 in scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year. The actual quantity and total award amount will be finalized during the application review process, based on submissions and available resources.

 

 

How do I apply?

Eligible candidates may apply for a scholarship by completing and submitting an application and all supplemental information. The scholarship application and list of supplement material may be found at www.mamaonline.net/scholarships or you may email mama.ms.scholarships@gmail.com.

Applications and all supplemental materials must be submitted to the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association by email by May 15, 2024.

Carefully review your application before submission. Once your application is submitted, no further revisions can be made.

 

 

What supplemental information is required?

The supplemental information required for the application process is:

  1. Unofficial transcript (from all institutions attended)

  2. Essay: In what area of automotive manufacturing are you interested and why? Include what you see as your potential career path in this industry.

  3. Resume

  4. (Optional) Letter(s) of recommendation from a teacher/professor, college counselor/advisor, or mentor

  5. (Optional) Photo for award announcements only

  6. Completed Scholarship Photo Release

 

 

What are the essay guidelines?

Essays (up to two pages in length total) in Arial or Times New Roman 12 pt font, with lines double-spaced.

 

 

When is the program deadline?

The application deadline for the 2024-2025 academic year is May 15, 2024.

 

 

How are recipients selected?

Applications will be evaluated on academic achievement, quality of essay, and interest in the automotive industry. Although recommendation letters are not required to apply, they may result in additional points for award criteria.

Recipients are selected by the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association Scholarship Committee and then recommended to the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association Board of Directors for final approval. Decisions of the selection committee and board of directors are final and are not subject to appeal. The program is competitive; not all applicants will be selected as recipients.

 

 

How and when will I be notified?

All applicants will be notified in July 2024. Notifications will be sent to applicants to the email address that is listed on the applications. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Non-recipients are encouraged to reapply in subsequent years.

 

 

What are a recipient’s responsibilities?

  • Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment as defined by their school (usually considered to be a minimum of 12 credit hours). If they drop below full-time, they forfeit their award.

  • Recipients must notify the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association of any changes in address, email address, school enrollment, or other relevant information leading up to and during their recipient year.

  • Recipients are strongly encouraged to participate in Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association events during their recipient year.

  • Recipients are encouraged to update the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association with current contact information following graduation.

 

 

How and when are scholarships paid?

Disbursements for students will be mailed in August 2024. The Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association will make scholarship funds payable to and mailed directly to the educational institution for distribution to the recipients. The Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time.
